In-person: Gift cards
Mollie supports gift cards for in-person payments when they are processed through the Visa or Mastercard card schemes. This means the gift card behaves like a regular payment card and does not require a separate payment method configuration (as long as Point-of-Sale is activated and your terminals are set up and activated, you should be able to accept supported gift cards).
For general Point-of-Sale details, see Point of sale.
Key considerations
- Only gift cards operating on the Visa or Mastercard schemes are currently supported for Mollie terminals.
- Onboarding and processing flows may vary depending on shopping mall or provider policies.
- Some providers may require additional steps before activation (e.g., validation, registration etc) .
Contact your gift card representative if you need more support with the onboarding process. - Mollie supports integrations with gift card suppliers

The following section describes typical onboarding and activation flow.
Setting up EML and Giftify
The activation flow for EML or Giftify on Mollie terminals typically follows these steps:
-
Receive and install Mollie terminal
Order your Mollie terminal, set it up and ensure it can process regular card payments first.
-
Initiate a gift card transaction
Perform a transaction using a gift card on the terminal. The first transaction is expected to fail. This step is required so that the terminal can be identified and registered.
-
Contact the shopping mall staff
The shopping center staff registers payment devices by verifying which terminals are linked to the failed gift card transactions.
-
Perform another test transaction
After the terminal has been registered, perform another gift card transaction. If the setup is completed successfully, your Mollie terminal(s) can now accept gift card payments.
