Balance Report

Balance Report provides insight into your Mollie balance over a specific period of time and shows all transactions, fees, and corrections that affected your balance during a certain timeframe.

These reports are useful for tracking the movement of funds in your Mollie account, including incoming payments, outgoing refunds, and settlements to your bank account.
Unlike Settlement Report which focuses on individual payouts, Balance Report gives you a complete overview of all activity within your balance during a chosen period.

Each Balance Report contains the following categories:

  • Opening Balance (available via Mollie Web App and API) - balance at the start of your selected period.

  • Revenue - money coming into your balance:
    • Payments - successful payments from your customers
    • Split Payments - successful payment routes
    • Captures - captured amounts from authorized payments
    • Credit Balance money movements - credit movements that increase your balance, like corrections (top-ups, balance movements, etc)
    • Chargeback Reversals - chargebacks that were resolved in your favor
    • Returned Refunds - refunds that couldn't be processed and were returned
    • Top-ups

  • Deductions - money coming out of your balance:
    • Refunds - money returned to your customers
    • Chargebacks - disputed payments reversed by the customer's bank
    • Debit Balance money movements - debit movements that decrease your balance, like corrections (balance movements, etc)

  • Costs - fees associated with your transactions, for example:
    • Payment method Fees - fees for processing payments
    • Chargeback Fees - fees charged when a chargeback occurs
    • Refund Fees - fees for processing refunds
    • Failure Fees - fees for failed payment attempts
    • Bank Charged Failure Fees - additional fees for failed direct debit payments (SEPA Direct Debit only)
    • Notification Fees - fees for payment notifications
    • Fee Reimbursements - refunded fees
    • Invoice Rounding - small rounding corrections on invoices
    • Invoice Compensation - adjustments to invoice amounts

  • Closing Balance (available via Mollie Web App and API) - balance at the end of your selected period.

Balance Report Exports are available daily or monthly. Since these exports are typically used to import data into bookkeeping platforms (e.g., to fill a suspense account), it's important to avoid importing duplicated data. We strongly recommend using a systematic approach and consistently working either with daily or monthly exports and avoid mixing them.

Balances API

Our Balances API provides programmatic access to real-time and historical data about your Mollie balance.
For customers processing higher volumes of transactions, using API is the preferred method of setting up exports as it enables automation, eliminates manual steps, and allows you to handle large volumes of transactions and their respective data efficiently.

The Balances API allows you to:

  • Retrieve your real-time open balance(s)
Get instant visibility into your current Mollie balance (total amount) without the need to generate a report.
  • Retrieve all balance movements
View all changes that took place within your available balance during any timeframe. The data includes payments, refunds, chargebacks, captures, and transfers.
  • Retrieve aggregated time-based reports
Get aggregated amounts for a specific timeframe and obtain a high-level overview of your balance activity without the need to fetch individual transaction details.

Balances API vs Settlements API

The Balances API overlaps with the Settlements API to a degree, since the Settlements API allows you to retrieve a fixed list of fund movements within your balance that are included in each settlement.
Both APIs can be used for accounting and reconciliation purposes, however the Balances API gives you the most complete overview, where you don't have to wait for the execution of the actual settlement.
