Connect: Route and Split payments
Split payments let marketplaces distribute funds across multiple sellers in a single transaction. When a buyer pays, Mollie holds the incoming funds in an escrow-like account (your marketplace's holding balance) before distributing specified amounts to each connected seller's balance, while letting you retain a portion of the funds as a commission.
In this setup:
- Your marketplace is the payment owner.
- Mollie's fees are charged to your account and are not visible to connected sellers.
- Chargeback liability remains on you rather than on your connected merchants.
There is no limit on how many routes you can create for a single payment.
Routing options
Choose how and when to distribute funds to sellers.
Recommendation: Use delayed routing for all new integrations. Upfront routing is not recommended for new integrations.

Enabling split payments
Split payments are not enabled by default. To enable them, complete this request form or contact your Mollie partner manager.
Delayed routing: gross settlement required
Delayed routing requires gross settlement (unlike upfront routing), which is automatically enabled when you request delayed routing.
Under gross settlement, Mollie's fees are charged to your marketplace account but are not deducted automatically from your balance. Instead, you receive a monthly invoice and pay Mollie's fees manually. With upfront routing, fees are also charged to the marketplace but deducted per transaction from your balance directly.
Commission retention
With delayed routing, commission is not retained automatically. Any amount you want to keep must be explicitly routed to your own marketplace balance. Unrouted funds remain in the holding balance until you route them. If left unrouted for 90 days, they are automatically swept to your marketplace balance (t avoid any mistakes, we recommend proactive routine, rather than waiting for the fallback).
With upfront routing, any amount not explicitly routed to a connected seller remains in your marketplace balance automatically.
